I know why van Gogh cut his ear off!

I have been a painting mad-woman this week! I LOVE to paint. I love it so much that I tend to loose perspective on what I should be doing and ignore everything until my ideas are materialized. Food? Sleep? Kids?
I just want it all done.
To see my ideas as reality.

The boys room, living room, dining room, entry way, hall way, and mud area are all painted. Chad and his friend (thanks Anitra for letting him hold your husband hostage) spent all day Saturday hanging molding in the bathroom and living room. There is still a lot to do, but I need to slow down. So here's the real story though...

My kids have been so bad this week.
And I mean REALLY bad.
I couldn't figure out why, but now I know.
It's me!
I have ignored them all week to get done what I wanted to do. When I give them all my attention...when I am available to talk to them right when they need me...when I am not distracted and able to focus just on them, they are happy! Silly me to take so long to realize this. Silly me to expect them to act like adults and take care of themselves. I think with all of Chads traveling and my crazy artist mind, my poor kids must have felt a little lost. So here's the plan.

I will save my things for the evening when they are in bed, and be prepared to stick to our routine during the day, and we'll see how they do.

I am so blessed to be a mom to these amazing kids. I need to remember that they are only mine for such a short time. They grow up so fast...I will have plenty of time to cultivate my artistic mind later. In church today the talks were on magnifying our callings. I couldn't help but think of motherhood the entire time. I could do so much better.

I have a feeling it's going to be a great week.

Hope you all have a great week too!

Oh ya! The title...I know you artists out there will get this...
Someday I will learn how to balance my need to create with the needs of my family.

And not cut off my ear in the process.

Look how amazing it looks!! Those pictures should be in a magazine...or they should when you get dining room chairs :)
I love painting now too, thanks to you! You made it fun, and I'm glad Jud could help a little too.

Seriously, looks SO good!

I wish you could bring your desire over to my house. Kes and I drag our feet like crazy when it comes to painting. We still have a few rooms to go and have been in our home almost three years! I feel the same as you do about motherhood. It seems like this time is slipping through my fingers so everyday (and I mean several times a day) when I feel like sending the kids away, I remember that someday soon they will all be grown and gone and I will miss this time. Even the constant cleaning of spills, wiping bums, watching the worst Thomas Train movie every day, etc. We'll miss it all. Thanks for the reminder! The paint looks incredible. I wish I had an ounce of your artistic talent!

You want more to paint? I do have a airline ticket with your name on it if you want to come paint for me. Oh yeah, what to do with the kiddos though. Miss you! Thanks for sharing your pics.

Love that color! What's the name of it? I'm in the (early) planning process of redecorating and I love that look!

Oh my goodness,

I loved all of these thoughts. Thanks for the reminder of how blessed we are to have our kids and that we need to cherish this time.

Your brain is so talented. Good grief, I loved your home before but that paint is just beautiful. I'm so happy to see those frames filled with your kids smiling faces!!

It's beautiful! You did a fantastic job! I also appreciate the great thoughts on being a mother.
P.S. If you ever get the time I would love to see pictures of the other rooms!

Marci it looks soooo good! I need you to come help me someday when I am in my own place again and able to decorate.

I know just what you mean about motherhood though- so tough to find that balance of quality time with kids, and some recharging activities for your own sanity!

Love the decorating, I know how it is to start a project and then realize, OH Yeah, I have kids, and they are really naughty when you don't give them attention!!

So that's why your not answering your phone. Just kidding! You do have an amazing artist talent that I'm sure is hard to avoid.

Love the painting and can't wait to see the new tile floor in your dining room.

Any fun plans for Savanna's birthday tomorrow. Wish we could be there to celebrate.

oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE the color. When you figure out the balance thing let me know. I jump into projects feet first and don't resurface until I feel I have completed it. So that makes me not start them too.

I love the dining room chairs! I only say this because it looks A LOT like our dining room-a few folding chairs, a few table chairs (oh, but we still have a folding table in there too :) It looks great! We've been trying to figure out colors for painting our home, I may have to steal your idea, I LOVE the gray!!! It looks so pretty!
